IWCF Rotary Drilling Well Control training has been developed by the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) for personnel performing critical well control responsibilities on both offshore drilling installations and onshore.

Course Overview
Course Structure
The training covers all aspects of Rotary Drilling Well Control and is broadly divided into 3 components:
▪ Well Control Principes and Procedures
▪ Well Control Equipment.
▪ Well control simulator training.
The participant will be trained and assessed on each of the above components.
Prerequisites
- An IWCF Candidate Registration (C.R.) number shall be required prior to attending the course. This can be obtained upon registration and approval with IWCF Forum
- There are no pre-training prerequisites for a Level 3 IWCF Drilling Well Control training course.
- Delegates can also attend the level 4 course without prior well control training. However, this should be at a company's discretion (IWCF advises delegates to progress from level 2 to level 3, to level 4.)
Course Content
Participants will receive instruction and training in the following topics:
▪ Primary Well control, causes of kicks, kick warning signs, and indicators.
▪ Shut in methods and wellbore pressures.
▪ Well Control methods (Drillers, Wait and Weight, Volumetric)
▪ Well control procedures within specialized environments (e.g. Horizontal Wells, Top-hole Drilling, oil base mud, etc
▪ Deepwater Well Control (for combined surface and subsea participants).
▪ Basic wellbore pressure and volume calculations
▪ Kill sheet completion, utilization, and analysis.
▪ Basic well control equipment. (operation and functions).
▪ American Petroleum Institute (API) standards pertaining to well control operations and equipment.
▪ Hands-on well control management skills, utilizing a drilling simulator. (Influx detection, influx containment, together with influx evacuation and control)
Target Audience
The course is targeted towards mid to senior level supervisors who are responsible for on-site or remote management of drilling operations. Amongst others this includes the following job functions:
▪ Asst Drillers, Drillers and Tool pushers.
▪ Drilling Supervisors, Drilling Engineers, and Drilling Managers
▪ Third party service personnel.
Certification
An IWCF Drilling Well Control certificate.
Revalidation
The course must be revalidated every 2 years.

Health Prerequisites
Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement.
