Gravel Packing (Sand Control) Operations

Many of the worlds oil and gas wells are drilled and completed in unconsolidated sandstones that produce formation sand with reservoir fluids. Problems that are associated with sand production include: plugging of perforation tunnels, sanding up of the production interval, accumulation in surface separators, and potential failure of down hole and surface equipment from erosion. These problems can pose serious economic and safety risks on an operation. These wells require specialized sand control completion practices to allow hydrocarbons to be produced without formation sand.
The QUANTUM* Gravel-Packing System from Schlumberger WCP is specially designed for production gravel packing. This system includes a hydraulically set packer, a totally hydraulic service tool and assembly for the packer. The SandFace simulator (SandfaceSIM-5000) that will train the student in understanding the QUANTUM* Gravel-Packing System, associated accessories, production tools and the gravel packing process. This real time simulator will allow visual observation of the service tool operation downhole, showing its active position and the gravel process.

The SandFaceSIM software runs on either the DrillSIM-5000 or DST-5000 Simulator Models.
